Dave Shaw sets a new Striders over-55 club record for the marathon
57-year-old Dave Shaw, from Striders of Croydon, had an excellent run in the Yorkshire Marathon on Sunday, He finished 109th overall in a field of more than 4300 runners, and recorded a lifetime best of 2 hours 50 minutes 31 seconds. This is a new Striders over-55 club record and lifts him to eleventh place in this year’s British M55 marathon rankings.
In the Surrey Masters Cross-Country Championships at Morden Park on Saturday, Lee Flanagan ran very well to finish fourth in the M45 race, completing the undulating six-mile course in exactly 36 minutes. Club colleague Andy Perks was eighth (39:04), while Micky Wheeler was ninth in the M55 race (41:38). In the M60 race, Jon Dean ran well to finish fifth, completing the four-mile course in 26 minutes 59 seconds. Rob Zietz was seventh (27:53) and Alan Dolton 16th (35:05). They placed fourth in the team event. David Hoben was 13th in the M65 race (39:47).
Simone Luciani ran well to win the Run Through ‘Chase the Moon’ 10-kilometre road race at the Olympic Park in Stratford on Wednesday. His time of 33 minutes 47 seconds lifted him to tenth place in Striders’ all-time club rankings. In the Oxford Half-Marathon, Striders were led by Jenny Rowe who ran 1 hour 40 minutes 15. In the Centurions Autumn 100-mile race, starting and finishing at Goring in Oxfordshire, Keith Simpson finished second in the over-70 age-group and 107th overall, recording 26 hours 10 minutes 49.
Niamh Vincent was the first woman to finish the South Norwood parkrun on Saturday, placing ninth overall in exactly 22 minutes. Striders had a total of 73 finishers in the various weekly parkruns.
