22 Striders finish London Marathon
Striders of Croydon had an impressive total of 22 finishers in the London Marathon on Sunday. In hot conditions, their first man home was Liam Redmond, who ran very well to complete the course in 3 hours 3 minutes 11 seconds. He was followed by Andy Perks (3.10:44), Dave Shaw (3.12:33) and Mike Stewart (3.23:14). Striders’ first woman to finish was Rachel Lindley, who recorded 3 hours 23 minutes 27. Martin Filer (3.45:24) and Luke Limbach (3.50:35) also finished in under four hours. Striders’ second woman to finish was Katherine Selby (4.30:28). She was followed by Belinda Carroll (4.57:25), Sheena Hammond (5.23:16) and Sweta Pallavi (5.36:02). Striders’ oldest finisher, Sue Atkinson, set a club over-70 record of 6 hours 13 minutes 28.
On Wednesday James Bennett ran well to win the Clapham Common 5K, recording 15 minutes 55 seconds and finishing more than a minute ahead of his nearest rival. On Saturday Striders had a total of 75 finishers in the various weekly parkruns (29 at Lloyd Park and 46 at other venues). Their best performances came from Lee Flanagan who was second at Lloyd Park (18:13) and from Joanne Campbell who was the second woman to finish at Bromley, placing 46th overall in a personal best 21 minutes 20.
