5ks, 5000m’s & parkruns
Steve Corfield, from Striders of Croydon, ran very well to place first in the M60 age-group, and 27th overall out of 173 finishers, in the monthly Serpentine 5K at Hyde Park on Friday, recording 18 minutes 12. Club colleague Liam Redmond was 49th (19:02), while Darren Woods was 99th (21:27).
On Saturday morning, Ally Whitlock was the first woman to finish the Chasewater parkrun in Staffordshire, placing 17th overall out of 323 finishers (21:25). Marc Burrows was second out of 92 finishers in the Volksgarten parkrun in Dusseldorf (18:59). Peter Johnson was second out of 56 finishers in the Inis Meain parkrun in Galway Bay (20:14). Selena Wong was the second woman to finish the Thomas Mills parkrun in Suffolk, placing 12th overall (25:15). Debra Bourne was the second woman to finish the Lloyd parkrun, placing 49th overall (25:05). Cindy Siu was the third woman to finish the South Norwood parkrun, placing 51st overall (24:46). Striders had a total of 117 finishers in the various weekly parkruns.
In the Veterans AC 5000 metre championships, in hot conditions at Battersea on Wednesday, Peter Johnson placed seventh in the M60 age-group (20:09.69). In the Horndon on the Hill 10K in Essex on Sunday, Vanessa Wheeler placed fourth in the W60 age-group and 227th overall (54:22).
