• Striders Age Group 5km Records Broken

    Two members of Striders of Croydon ran very well to set new club age-group records for five kilometres within four days. In the Ardingly five-kilometre road race on Wednesday evening, Andrew Aitken set a new club over-40 record of 16 minutes 50 seconds, finishing 88th in a high-quality field. In the Reunion five-kilometre road race at Kempton Park on Saturday, Matthew Stone was the first over-55 to finish, setting a new club age-group record of 18 minutes 03. Peter Johnson was third in the over-55 category in a new personal best of 19 minutes 54, while club colleague Darren Woods ran 19 minutes 50.

    James Rhodes ran very well in the Birmingham University Open Meeting on Wednesday, placing third in his heat of the 800 metres in a new personal best of 2 minutes 07.98 seconds.

    Four Striders competed in RunThrough 10-kilometre road races, at two different venues. At Battersea Park on Saturday, Michael Sawh ran well to finish in 40 minutes 07. At the Olympic Park in Stratford on Wednesday, Darren Woods finished in 41 minutes 42, and was followed by James Burree (44:30) and Michael Smaldon (47:23).

    Some of Striders’ youngest runners completed the Lloyd junior parkrun on Sunday morning. They were led by Toby Lee-Smith who placed seventh in 9 minutes 35. Anna Macenhill was 31st (11:32) with Elena Ambrosi 51st (13:16), Caleb Macenhill 55th (13:33) and Libby Javan 58th (13:47).
