An abundance of race results!
Striders of Croydon produced some good performances in their first Southern Veterans League meeting of the season, at Kingsmeadow on Monday. Julian Spencer-Wood, in his first track race for four years, had an excellent run to set a club over-70 800 metre record of 2 minutes 53.7 seconds, placing third in his heat. This made Julian the oldest Strider ever to run 800 metres in less than three minutes, and currently places him third in this year’s British M70 rankings. Club colleague Peter Johnson placed second in the previous heat, recording 2 minutes 42.6.
Lorraine Hunte ran very well to record a club W65 record of 17.7 seconds for the 100 metres, placing fifth in her heat. Sandra Francis was third in her 100 metre heat (18.1) and later placed fourth in the women’s long jump, winning the over-60 category with a leap of 2 metres 91.
In the 3000 metres, Joseph Ibe placed sixth in the first heat, recording a personal best 10 minutes 39.5. Nikki Javan won the third heat in a personal best 12 minutes 08.3, finishing more than 15 seconds ahead of her nearest rival. Chris Green was third in 13 minutes 02.3.
Striders had 10 competitors in the RunThrough Clapham Common 10K on Wednesday. Darren Woods placed 21st of the 192 finishers, recording 43 minutes 17 seconds. Peter Johnson was 23rd overall and first in the over-55 age-group (43:26). Michael Sawh was 26th (43:51) and James Burree 31st (44:31). Anna O’Sullivan was the 17th woman to finish, placing 103rd overall (54:06).
On Sunday, Darren Woods placed 34th in the Hampshire Hoppit Half-Marathon at Kingsclere, recording 1 hour 46 minutes 43 seconds. Louise Grech finished the RunThrough Wimbledon Common Half-Marathon in 2 hours 06 minutes 39.
