An abundance of races!
Rachel Lindley, from Striders of Croydon, had an excellent run in the Asda Yorkshire Marathon, starting and finishing at York. She was the 22nd woman to finish, setting a new club W40 record of 3 hours 11 minutes 07 seconds. Club colleague Nikki Javan was the 57th woman to finish, recording a personal best of 3 hours 29 minutes 26, which lifts her to 17th place in Striders’ all-time women’s rankings.
Andrew Aitken also had an excellent run to place fifth out of 969 finishers, and second in the over-40 category, in the Royal Borough of Kingston Half-Marathon. He recorded 77 minutes 38 seconds. James Bennett ran well to place 12th in the Rock’n’Roll Liverpool Half-Marathon, recording 78 minutes 12.
On Saturday morning, Alastair Falconer ran well to place first out of 350 finishers in the Durham parkrun, completing the five-kilometre course in 17 minutes 14. Steve Corfield placed second in the Bethlem Royal Hospital parkrun (19:50), while Jennifer Gutteridge was the second woman to finish the Lloyd parkrun, placing 28th overall (22:53). Striders had a total of 94 finishers in the various weekly parkruns.
Joseph Ibe placed 60th in the Sri Chinmoy 10K road race at Battersea (40:21). In the Great South Run at Portsmouth, Striders were led by Conor O’Hara-Barrett, who completed the 10-mile course in 67 minutes 40. He was followed by James Burree (72:20), Michael Joseph (79:09), Katherine Selby (87:48), Laura Cullum (1:50:12) and Annabel Crouch (1:56:28). In the Cabbage Patch 10-mile road race at Twickenham, John Punt ran 76 minutes 50 and was followed by Keith Dube (90:03) and Karen Peake (1:49:40). Steph Upton was the seventh woman to finish the Titsey Trail 10-kilometre race (52:17), while club colleague Darren Woods was 43rd (48:27).
