Keith Simpson first V70 at Southampton Marathon
James Rhodes, from Striders of Croydon, had another good run in an early-season track meeting at Tonbridge. He placed 12th in a good-quality 1500 metre race in a personal best of 4 minutes 23.21 seconds, which was almost two seconds faster than his previous best, set at Battersea last June.
On Saturday, Sebastian Munday was third in the Bethlem Royal Hospital parkrun (19:23) with Graeme Drysdale fourth (19:43). Kerim Suruliz was third in the Perrigo parkrun (19:44) while Christopher Finch was third in the Swanley parkrun (20:55). Lucy Finch was the third woman to finish the Swanley parkrun, placing 21st overall (27:45). Matthew Stone was fourth in the Tooting parkrun (18:22) while Oliver Watts was fourth in the South Norwood parkrun (19:12). Also at South Norwood, Steve Smith became the third member of Striders to complete 500 parkruns. Striders had a total of 79 finishers in the various weekly parkruns.
In the Boston Marathon, Erik Schrijnenaekers ran well to finish in 3 hours 10 minutes 49. Keith Simpson was the first over-70 to finish the Southampton Marathon (5:16:51), while Jane Hughes finished in 5:23:19. Martin Filer completed the hilly Madeira Island Ultra Trail Race in 5:58:40. Louise Grech completed the Worthing Half-Marathon in 2:01:51, while Gareth Pert was 59th in the 10-kilometre road race at the same venue (44:19).
