Andrew Aitken sets new club v40 5km record
Andrew Aitken, from Striders of Croydon, ran very well to place 13th of 166 runners in the monthly Serpentine five-kilometre road race at Hyde Park on Friday. He set a new Striders over-40 record of 16 minutes 46 seconds. This was four seconds quicker than the previous record which he set at Ardingly last year.
On Saturday, Steve Corfield ran well to place first out of 107 finishers in the Bethlem Royal Hospital parkrun (19:41). Consuelo Kennefick was the second woman to finish the Riddlesdown parkrun, placing 21st overall (21:58). Oliver Watts was third in the South Norwood parkrun (19:14). Daniel Finch was third in the Foots Cray parkrun (20:48), while his brother Christopher Finch was fourth (21:03). Cindy Siu was the third woman to finish the Lloyd parkrun, placing 62nd overall (25:10). Striders had a total of 85 finishers in the various weekly parkruns.
James Rhodes placed fourth out of 14 runners in his heat of the 1500 metres in the Thames Valley Harriers Open Meeting at Wormwood Scrubs on Wednesday. He recorded 4 minutes 32.47 seconds. Three days later he recorded 2 minutes 06.86 seconds for 800 metres in another open meeting, at Battersea Park.
