Striders perform at 5km to 100 miles…
Andrew Aitken, from Striders of Croydon, ran very well to place 13th out of 322 finishers in the Ranelagh Harriers Richmond Half-Marathon, which incorporated the Surrey Championship, on Sunday. He recorded 76 minutes 07. Tatsuya Okamoto placed 23rd (78:57). Steve Corfield ran well to place third in the over-60 category and 105th overall in a new club age-group record of 91 minutes 17. Sunjay Bhogal was 280th (1:58:32).
Striders faced strong opposition at Nonsuch Park on Saturday, in their second monthly mob match against Epsom, Collingwood and Tadworth, held in conjunction with the weekly parkrun. Striders were led by James Rhodes, who placed 12th of the 836 finishers (17:31). Oliver Watts was 16th (17:53) with Sebastian Munday 17th (17:58). Matthew Stone was the first over-60 to finish, placing 21st overall (18:07). Damian Macenhill was 48th (19:31) with Stephen Kennefick 57th (19:52), Steve Massey 66th (20:06) and Andy Perks 69th (20:12). Striders’ women were led by Consuelo Kennefick who was the fourth woman to finish, placing 77th overall (20:38). Claire Mitchell was the 81st woman to finish (26:42) with Vanessa Wheeler 82nd (26:44), Yasmin Anderson 97th (27:40) and Anna O’Sullivan 98th (27:40). Striders had 33 finishers.
On the same day, Ally Whitlock was the fifth woman to finish the Thames Path 100-mile race from Richmond to Oxford, placing 34th overall in 21 hours 12 minutes 15 seconds.
In the Milton Keynes Marathon, Striders were led by Liam Redmond who placed 54th in 2 hours 59 minutes 40. He was followed by James Burree (3:41:50), Michael Smaldon (3:59:19), Darren Woods (4:16:19) and Selena Wong (4:19:34).
Striders had 18 finishers at the Vitality London 10K. They were led by Jay Lidbetter who placed 137th (34:37), while their fastest woman was Michelle Jardine (53:01).
