Southern Vets League returns for 2022
Striders of Croydon produced some good performances in their first Southern Veterans League match of the season, at Ewell on Monday. Steve Corfield had an excellent run to win the M60 3000 metres in a new club age-group record of 11 minutes 09.8, and also won the M60 800 metres (2:29.8). Jon Dean won the M60 200 metres (32.6) and was third in the M60 javelin (16.41). Paul Cripps won the M50 shot (7.72), and was second in the M50 long jump (3.86) and fourth in the M50 200 metres (29.8) and javelin (23.25). Sam O’Dongo was third in the M35 800 metres (2:25.8) and fifth in the long jump (2.95). Sandra Francis was third in the W60 long jump (2.44) and fourth in the javelin (6.45). Joseph Ibe was fifth in the M35 3000 metres (10:54.2). Striders’ men placed fifth, while their women were seventh out of eighth clubs.
Matthew Stone was the first over-60 to finish the Kempton Park 10K on Sunday, placing eighth overall in a new club age-group record of 37 minutes 31. Kara Boaks was the third woman to finish the South Downs Way 50K, placing 27th overall in 5 hours 20 minutes 21.
Striders had seven finishers in the South London Harriers 10K at Coulsdon on Thursday. Lee Flanagan was 14th (40:33), Kerim Suruliz 26th (45:01), Andy Perks 27th (45:10), Chris Morton 32nd (47:57), Stephen Allport 40th (49:56), Sunjay Bhogal 68th (59:08) and Claire Mitchell 71st (60:40).
Consuelo Kennefick was the first woman to finish the Riddlesdown parkrun on Saturday, placing 12th overall (21:32). Alastair Falconer was second in the Squerryes Winery parkrun (18:28), while Justin Macenhill was second in the Bethlem Royal Hospital parkrun (19:14). Striders had 107 finishers in the various weekly parkruns.
