Surrey XC League Race 2
Striders of Croydon faced strong opposition in their second Surrey Cross-Country League matches of the season, at Oxshott on Saturday. Their women placed seventh out of 29 clubs in their Division Two match. They were again led by Jennifer Gutteridge who ran well to place 22nd, completing the undulating three and a half mile course in 25 minutes 24. Kara Boaks was 28th (25:57), Ellyw Evans 43rd (26:40), Nikki Javan 66th (28:19) and Anna O’Sullivan 76th (28:42). Their B team placed fifth in their category. Cindy Siu was 101st (29:46), Selena Wong 112th (30:32), Michelle Vezie-Taylor 119th (31:06), Yasmin Anderson 152nd (33:06), Elsa Santana 209th (37:17), Jadwiga Brzask-Makiela 214th (37:49) and Michelle Klein 247th (44:56).
Striders’ men placed third out of nine clubs in their Division Three match. Phil Coales again ran well to place fifth, completing the five-mile course in 31:25. Harry Madgwick-Lawton was 14th (32:49), James Rhodes 15th (33:04), Peter Mills 21st (33:31), Andrew Aitken 24th (33:43), Lee Flanagan 38th (34:27), Erik Schrijnemaekers 54th (35:26), Luke Burden 66th (36:13) and Tom Vincent 72nd (36:41). Steve Corfield again ran well to place first in the over-60 category, placing 74th overall (36:46). Their B team placed third in their category. Tom Gillespie was 77th (37:14), Simon Ambrosi 85th (37:51), Kerim Suruliz 90th (38:04), Simon Attridge 108th (39:22), Simon Webster 128th (41:12) and John Summers 129th (41:14). Robert Zietz was first in the over-65 age-group and 132nd overall (41:34). Mick Turner was 146th (43:18) and James Harrison 162nd (52:43).
Rachel Lindley was the sixth woman to finish the Wendover Woods 50-mile race, placing 37th overall (10:43:41). Debra Bourne was the 15th woman to finish, placing 125th overall (13:01.56). Jamie Stevenson placed eleventh out of 348 finishers in the RunThrough Richmond Half-Marathon (89:21).
