British Masters 5km road running championships

Four runners from Striders of Croydon competed against strong opposition in the British Masters five-kilometre road running championships, at Battersea Park on Sunday. Striders did particularly well in the M60 age-group, with two of the first five finishers. Matthew Stone ran well to place fourth in 18 minutes 12, which was just one second outside the club age-group record he had set at Hyde Park in August. Club colleague Steve Corfield was close behind in fifth place (18:14). In the M40 age-group, Tatsuya Okamoto placed eighth in 16 minutes 48, just two seconds outside the club age-group record. Andrew Aitken was eleventh (17:24).

In the Valencia Marathon on the same day, Nikki Javan ran a personal best 3 hours 23 minutes 06 and was followed by Simone Luciani (3:32.52) and Michael Joseph (4:01:58).

On Saturday morning, Lee Flanagan placed first of 170 finishers in the Lloyd parkrun (19:22), with Simon Ambrosi third (20:27) and Conor O’Hara-Barrett fourth (20:32). Cindy Siu was the third woman to finish, placing 41st overall (25:36). Andy Perks placed first out of 67 finishers in the Bethlem Royal Hospital parkrun (20:19). Niamh Vincent was the first woman to finish the Toyen parkrun in Oslo (Norway), placing 16th overall (21:37). Martin Filer was second out of 86 finishers in the Riddlesdown parkrun (20:05). Angela Seesurrun was the third woman to finish the South Norwood parkrun, placing 32nd overall (25:44).

On Wednesday evening, John Punt was second in the M50 age-group in the RunThrough Chase The Moon 10K at Battersea, recording 40 minutes 49.

Stuart Hills was third in the M65 age-group in the Los Montesinos 10K in Spain, placing 122nd overall (54:17). Linda Daniel placed 219th out of 444 finishers in the Boscombe 10K (54:54).
