Age group records broken
Two runners from Striders of Croydon set club age-group records in the Comeback 5000 metres at Battersea Park on Friday evening. Tatsuya Okamoto finished third in his heat in a personal best of 16 minutes 27.80, which was a club M40 record. Club colleague Andrew Aitken was ninth in the same heat in a club M45 record of 16:52.96. In the RunThrough Chase The Sun five-kilometre road race, also at Battersea Park two days earlier, Max Veglio was 23rd out of 149 finishers (19:10) while Darren Woods was 36th (20:50).
In the South London Athletics Network Open Meeting, at Coulsdon on Saturday, Joseph Ibe placed third in his heat of the 3000 metres in 10 minutes 54.89.
Earlier on Saturday, Striders had 101 finishers in the various weekly parkruns. Martin Filer was first out of 122 finishers in the Riddlesdown parkrun (18:58). Marc Burrows was first in the Etna parkrun in Sicily (23:05). Ellyw Evans was the first woman to finish the Dolgellau parkrun, placing tenth overall (21:50). Simon Ambrosi was second out of 180 finishers in the Lloyd parkrun (20:24). Consuelo Kennefick was the second woman to finish the Riddlesdown parkrun, placing 18th overall (22:50). Debra Bourne was the second woman to finish the Lloyd parkrun, placing 36th overall (24:58), while Cindy Siu was the third woman to finish, placing 40th overall (25:21). Daniel Finch was third in the Bethlem Royal Hospital parkrun (20:57), and Jon Dean was fourth in the Lullingstone parkrun (23:59).
On Sunday, Sheena Hammond completed the Belfast Marathon in a personal best of 4 hours 32 minutes 40. In the Haywards Heath 10-mile race, Darren Woods was 67th in 73 minutes 33. In the Worthing 10K, Isabelle Kita was 13th in the W60 age-group (71:17).
