Striders at parkrun
James Rhodes, from Striders of Croydon, celebrated his 31st birthday by taking first place out of 162 finishers in the South Norwood parkrun on Saturday, completing the five-kilometre course in 18 minutes 13. Club colleague Andrew Aitken was second (18:19), while Niamh Vincent was the second woman to finish, placing 15th overall (21:28). Consuelo Kennefick was the first woman to finish the Riddlesdown parkrun, placing 24th overall (23:06). Cindy Siu was the first woman to finish the Lloyd parkrun, placing 41st overall (24:38). Ally Whitlock was the third woman to finish the Chasewater parkrun in Staffordshire, placing 43rd overall (22:25). Graeme Drysdale was fourth in the Bethlem Royal Hospital parkrun (20:06). Ellyw Evans was the fourth woman to finish the East Grinstead parkrun, placing 26th overall (25:02). Striders’ fastest time of the day came from Jay Lidbetter, who was seventh out of 494 finishers in the Dulwich parkrun (16:25). Striders had a total of 97 finishers in the various weekly parkruns.
In the Dave Clarke Mile at Wimbledon Park on Wednesday, James Rhodes ran 4 minutes 45.79, placing ninth in his heat. There were personal bests for Joseph Ibe (5:13.86) and Peter Johnson (5:39.60). Also on Wednesday, Michael Sawh placed 49th out of 224 finishers in the RunThrough Chase The Sun 5K in Battersea Park, recording 20 minutes 01.
In the South London Harriers 10K at Farthing Downs on Thursday, Tatsuya Okamoto placed seventh out of 98 finishers (38:48). Martin Filer was 19th (41:51), Andy Perks 33rd (45:33), Darren Woods 43rd (47:18) and Mick Turner 56th (49:30). In the Chevy Chase 20-mile fell race in Northumberland on Saturday, Stephen Allport placed 116th out of 175 finishers (4:57:32).
