Southern Veterans League
Striders of Croydon produced some good performances in their final Southern Veterans League match of the season, at Wimbledon on Monday. Steve Corfield won the M60 100 metres (14.1), the M60 400 metres (62.2) and the M60 mile (5:25.8). All three of these were new club age-group records. Paul Cripps won the M50 100 metres (14.2), the M50 high jump (1.45) and the M50 long jump (4.04), and was third in the M50 discus (18.42). Stephen Allport won the M35 2000 metre walk (13:41.3). Richard Dyson was second in the M35 400 metres (58.0) and third in the 100 metres (12.8). There were also third places for Peter Johnson in the M50 mile (5:45.8) and Steve Tyler in the M60 discus (18.12). Striders’ men placed third of the eight clubs in the match, and also placed third in the final league table.
Striders’ women placed sixth in the match and in the final league table. Lorraine Hunte won the W60 100 metres (17.6) while Annabel Crouch was fourth in the W35 100 metres (20.5). Sara Rahmani was sixth in the W35 mile (7:58.0) with Sarah Allport fourth in the B race (10:05.6).
Striders had several competitors in the Rosenheim League match at Tooting on Wednesday. Unfortunately the results were not available at the time of writing.
In the Elmbridge 10K on Sunday, Striders were led by Andrew Aitken who placed 24th (36:18), with Martin Filer 32nd (36:46). Steve Corfield was second in the M60 age-group and 62nd overall (38:51), while Erik Schrijnemaekers completed the scoring team in 67th (39:07). Peter Johnson was 98th (41:10), Jason Gallagher 110th (41:48), Simon Webster 148th (43:35), Cindy Siu 240th (51:08) and Steve Tyler 362nd (81:10).
On Saturday morning, Striders had 105 finishers in the various weekly parkruns.
