Surrey Cross-Country League
Striders of Croydon faced strong opposition in their penultimate Surrey Cross-Country League matches of the season, at Oxshott on Saturday. Their women did well to finish ahead of promotion rivals Walton, and climbed to third place out of 14 clubs in the overall Division Three table. They were led by Ellyw Evans who placed 13th out of the 113 finishers, completing the eight-kilometre course in 36:58. Cindy Siu was 22nd (38:38), Selena Wong 35th (40:24), Debra Bourne 41st (41:05), Rachel Gwynn 61st (44:16), Ruth Pearson 62nd (44:30), Jane Hughes 73rd (48:27) and Jadwiga Brzask-Makiela 90th (49:34).
Striders’ men had to settle for tenth place in their Division Two match, and dropped to tenth in the overall Division Two table. They were led by Phil Coales, who placed 45th out of the 248 finishers (28:29). James Rhodes was 62nd (28:55), Conor O’Hara-Barrett 82nd (29:39), Marc Burrows 108th (30:26) and Lee Flanagan 116th (30:52). Steve Corfield was first in the M60 age-group and 136th overall (31:43). Andy Perks was 144th (32:14), Liam Redmond 152nd (32:32), Nathan Robertshaw 153rd (32:37) and Simon Ambrosi completed the scoring team in 154th (32:39). Their B team placed eighth in their category. Erik Schrijnemaekers was 160th (33:04), while Matthew Stone was third in the M60 age-group and 164th overall (33:09). Kerim Suruliz was 167th (33:18), Jason Gallagher 174th (33:44) and Darren Woods 191st (34:31), Robert Zietz was second in the M65 age-group and 208th overall (36:24), while Jon Dean was fourth in the M65 age-group and 215th overall (36:54).
Striders also had 84 finishers in the various weekly parkruns. Rachel Lindley was the first woman to finish the Thonock Lane parkrun (20:54), while Niamh Vincent was the first woman to finish the South Norwood parkrun (21:42).
