Striders of Croydon did well to have 22 finishers in the Sutton 10K on Sunday, which was the first race in this year’s Surrey Road League. They were led by Marc Burrows, who placed 37th (38:12), just ahead of Steve Corfield who was 38th (38:15). Martin Filer was 55th (39:47), Stephen Harris 62nd (40:22) and Erik Schrijnemaekers 75th (41:10). Two of Striders’ other leading runners, Andy Perks and Matthew Stone, were omitted from the initial results, apparently because of problems with their timing chips.

In the women’s race, Striders were led by Ellyw Evans who was the 22nd woman to finish (43:28). Maili Singh was 65th (51:23), Jadwiga Brzask-Makiela 120th (64:43) and Michelle Klein 132nd (74:57).

Striders’ other finishers included Tim Lawlor (42:51), Craig Smith (43:23), Kechong Nguyen (45:07), David Foster (45:21), John O’Mahony (45:50), Matthew Bollington (46:01), Josef Freedman (48:05), Mark Harman (51:17), Matt Byrne (55:55), Andy Elliott (66:33) and Stephen Tyler (83:46).

In the Paris Marathon on the same day, Grace Champion ran 3:59:09 while Leonie Hondeborg ran 4:02:27.

On Saturday, Rachel Lindley was the seventh woman to finish the South Downs Way 50-mile race from Worthing to Eastbourne, recording 8:47:33. Earlier in the day, James Rhodes placed first out of 217 finishers in the South Norwood parkrun (17:49). Conor O’Hara-Barrett was first out of 126 finishers in the East Grinstead parkrun (19:08). Striders had a total of 125 finishers in the various weekly parkruns.

In the Veterans AC five-kilometre road race at Battersea on Tuesday, Steve Corfield placed second in the M60 age-group and 22nd overall (17:52). Andy Perks was 26th (18:06), Stephen Harris 53rd (19:26) and Darren Woods 68th (20:34).
