Ernie leads Striders twice on busy Saturday
Ernie Hann, from Striders of Croydon, had an excellent run to win the weekly parkrun in Lloyd Park on Saturday morning. He covered the muddy five-kilometre course in 18 minutes 40 seconds, finishing more than 90 seconds ahead of his nearest challenger.
Later that day Ernie led Striders’ team in the annual South of the Thames Cross-Country Association annual five-mile race, at Streatham Common. In a strong field, he placed 58th of the 227 finishers, recording 32 minutes 37 seconds. Taylor Huggins also ran well for 83rd (34.14) with Barry White 113rd (35.37) and team manager Chris Morton completing the scoring team in 137th (37.07). Striders finished 22nd out of 32 teams, and the club also had the ninth B team. In the women’s race Alice Ewen ran well to place 53rd in 43 minutes 53,
In the Brighton 10-kilometre road race, Colin Cotton set a club over-65 record of 46 minutes 13 seconds.
