Barry and Colin lead Striders in muddy relay
Striders of Croydon did well to place seventh out of 17 teams in the East Surrey League’s annual cross-country relay, at a very wet Wimbledon Common on Saturday. Team manager Chris Morton ran the first leg, covering the two-mile course in 13 minutes 10 seconds. He was followed by Mick Turner (13.09) and Sam O’Dongo (13.22), while on the final leg Barry White ran the team’s fastest time of the day, recording 12 minutes 02. Striders’ B team finished tenth, with 66-year-old Colin Cotton, the oldest member of the team, recording a very creditable time of exactly 14 minutes.
Meanwhile James Bennett won the weekly parkrun in Lloyd Park, covering the five-kilometre course in 18 minutes 42 seconds. Club colleague Ernie Hann was third in 20 minutes 03. Striders had a total of 30 finishers in the various local parkruns.
