Maggie and Steph lead Striders women Vets.
Striders of Croydon produced a good team performance in the second Southern Veterans League match of the season, at Croydon Arena on Monday. Their men placed third of the seven competing clubs, while their women were fourth.
Maggie Statham made a welcome return to Striders’ colours to win the over-50 women’s 1500 metres. Steph Upton won the over-35 women’s 2000 metre walk and was fourth in the A1500 metres, while Michelle Campbell won the B 1500 metres. Lorraine Hunte was second in the over-60 100 metres.
For Striders’ men, there were second places for Daniel Hassett in both the over-35 400 metres and the long jump, Sam O’Dongo in the over-35 100 metres, Justin Macenhill in the over-40 1500 metres, Julian Spencer-Wood in the over-60 1500 metres, Dave Hoben in the over-50 2000 metre walk, Damian Macenhill in the over-35 2000 metre walk and for the 4 x 100 metre relay team.
Striders had the first three finishers in the weekly parkrun at Lloyd Park on Saturday. Ernie Hann was first (18.55) with Lee Flanagan second (19.18) and Justin Macenhill third (19.52). Selena Wong was the second woman to finish (25.17). Krzysztof Klidzia won the Roundshaw parkrun (19.15), while Karen Stretch returned to her native Cumbria and was the first woman to finish the Barrow parkrun (20.25). Striders had a total of 37 finishers in the various weekly parkruns.
Meanwhile Carolyn Storey ran the Liverpool Marathon in 3 hours 52 minutes 11 seconds.
