Darren leads Striders at regional championships
Striders of Croydon faced strong opposition in the South of England Cross-Country Championships at Stanmer Park, Brighton, on Saturday. Their best performance came from Darren Woods who placed 566th out of the 857 finishers, covering the muddy 15-kilometre course in 71 minutes 02 seconds. Team manager Chris Morton was 628th in exactly 73 minutes, while Simon Webster was 734th in 79 minutes 08.
Earlier in the day Striders had gained a double win in the weekly parkrun in Lloyd Park. Ernie Hann won in 19 minutes 45, while Debra Bourne was the first woman to finish, placing 40th overall in 24 minutes 56. Damian Macenhill was second in the Tilgate parkrun (19.03) while Becky Laurence was the second woman to finish the Riddlesdown parkrun, placing 32nd overall (23.50). Striders had a total of 53 finishers in the various weekly parkruns (36 at Lloyd Park and 17 at other venues).
