Bill and Andy lead the Striders marathon effort at Brighton
Striders of Croydon had 17 competitors in the Brighton Marathon on Sunday. They were led by Bill Makuwa, who ran very well to finish in 2 hours 51 minutes 01 second, working his way through the field after a cautious start. Andy Perks, who had run the South Downs Way 50-mile race a week earlier, also did well to record 3 hours 05 minutes 11 seconds. They were followed by Steve Harris (3.12.40), Dave Shaw (3.17.07) and John Collins (3.21.36). Striders’ women were led by Carolyn Storey who ran 4 hours 03 minutes 04 seconds, while Adele Boesinger, in her marathon debut, ran 4 hours 20 minutes 27 and Jessica Thomas-Cole ran 4 hours 21 minutes 00.
On the same day Louise Grech ran the Paris Marathon in a personal best 4 hours 02 minutes 39, while Linda Daniel ran the Rotterdam Marathon in 4 hours 09 minutes 03.
Striders had the first two finishers in the weekly parkrun in Lloyd Park on Saturday. Simone Luciani gained a comfortable win in 17 minutes 18, while veteran Krzysztof Klidzia was second in 18 minutes 32. Alice Ewen was the second woman to finish, placing 32nd overall in 23 minutes 33.
