Striders super-vets Kevin and Sandra claim triple golds.

75-year-old Kevin Burnett, from Striders of Croydon, had an excellent day at the Surrey Masters Championships at Ewell on Sunday. He won gold medals in the M75 100 metres (22.06), shot (5.98) and discus (17.30), and silver in the hammer (16.55). Sandra Francis won gold in the W55 100 metres (17.00), 200 metres (36.70) and the 80 metre hurdles (20.98), and silver in the long jump (3.05). Steve Smith won gold in the M55 long jump (3.34) and 400 metres (80.09), and silver in the 100 metres (15.30). Paul Cripps won gold in the M45 high jump (1.50) and triple jump (9.20). Alan Dolton took silver in the M55 1500 metres (5.36.63).

Striders also had some excellent performances in Sunday’s Dorking 10-mile road race, which incorporated the Surrey Championships. James Bennett had an excellent run to place ninth of the 469 finishers, covering the undulating course in 57 minutes 46 seconds, which lifted him to eleventh place in Striders’ all-time club rankings. Iain Harrison also ran very well to finish 14th in a personal best 58 minutes 28, with Michael Stewart 46th (61.51) and veteran Justin Macenhill 48th (62.02). Striders’ women were led by Rachel Lindley who ran very well to be the fifth woman to finish, placing 74th overall in a personal best 65 minutes 04, which is only eight seconds outside the club record set by Jane Lansdown 15 years ago. Josephine Thompson was 172nd  in a personal best 72 minutes 36, with Becky Laurence 225th (76.25) and Karen Peake 417th (95.06).
