Peter leads Striders in muddy Tonbridge race

Striders of Croydon faced strong opposition in the South of the Thames Cross-Country Championship at Tonbridge on Saturday. Their best performance came from Peter Mills who ran well to place 22nd of the 220 finishers, covering the muddy 12-kilometre course in 46 minutes 34 seconds. Veteran Krzysztof Klidzia was 80th (52.39) with Simon Pannell 107th (55.32), Simon Webster 145th (58.49), Andy Perks 163rd (60.35) and Mick Turner completing the scoring team in 173rd (61.26). Striders placed 13th out of the 19 complete teams. Alice Ewen ran well to place 52nd in the women’s race in 72 minutes 40 seconds.

Meanwhile James Bennett had a very good run to place second in the Olympic Park 10 kilometre road race at Stratford, recording a personal best 33 minutes 11 seconds, which lifts him to fourth place in Striders’ all-time club rankings. Striders also had a total of 46 finishers in the various weekly parkruns, their best placings coming from Selena Wong who was the fifth woman at Riddlesdown (26.34) and Serena Stracey who was the fifth woman at the Amager Faelled parkrun in Denmark (25.15).
