Sheena Hammond wins Goodall Trophy at 5M Handicap
Iain Harrison, from Striders of Croydon, ran very well to win the Midsummer Munro Half-Marathon, starting and finishing at Box Hill. He completed the hilly course in 1 hour 59 minutes 45 seconds, more than three minutes ahead of his nearest rival.
On Saturday Alastair Falconer was first of 295 runners at the Huntingdon parkrun, recording 17 minutes 30 seconds, while Andy Perks was first at the Rouen parkrun in France (19:19). Striders had three of the first four finishers at the parkrun in Lloyd Park with Lee Flanagan placing second (18:38), Dave Shaw third (18:52) and Krzysztof Klidzia fourth (18:57). Striders had an impressive total of 74 finishers in the various weekly parkruns (26 at Lloyd Park and 48 at other venues).
Striders held their annual five-mile handicap race for the Goodall Trophy on Wednesday. The trophy was won by the improving Sheena Hammond, whose time of 42 minutes 41 was significantly faster than the handicapper had predicted, while the fastest actual time was run by Alastair Falconer (28:45) and the fastest woman was Rachel Vinton (36:04).
This Saturday (14th) Striders will be competing in the Elmore seven-mile road race at Chipstead, which is the fifth race in this year’s Surrey Road League. Both their men and women are currently placed ninth out of the 35 clubs in the league. Individually, Niamh Vincent is seventh in the senior women’s category, while Michelle O’Mahony is sixth in the women’s over-35 category.
