Race Report 24.09.2018 – Andrew Aitken gets 13th all-time Club marathon rankings at Berlin
Striders of Croydon had the first two finishers in the weekly parkrun in Lloyd Park on Saturday. They were led by Lee Flanagan, who covered the undulating five-kilometre course in 18 minutes 35 seconds, finishing eleven seconds ahead of club colleague Matthew Stone. Striders also had the first woman to finish, with the fast-improving Adele Boesinger placing 34th overall in 22 minutes 17 seconds. Striders had two of the first three finishers at the Riddlesdown parkrun, with Alastair Falconer placing second (17:27) and Martin Filer third (18:14), while Selena Wong was the third woman to finish, placing 34th overall (22:29). Liam Redmond was fourth out of 551 finishers in the Bromley parkrun (18:14). Striders had an impressive total of 67 finishers in the various weekly parkruns (29 at Lloyd Park and 38 at other venues).
In the Berlin Marathon last week, Andrew Aitken had an excellent run to finish in 2 hours 46 minutes 43 seconds, lifting him to 13th place in Striders’ all-time club rankings. On Sunday, in very wet conditions, Peter Johnson placed 55th out of 409 finishers in the Beckenham Half-Marathon, recording 1 hour 41 minutes 00.
This Saturday (29th) Striders will be competing in the first East Surrey League cross-country race of the season, at Lloyd Park, while on Sunday they will be promoting their annual ‘Switchback’ five-mile cross-country race in Addington Hills.
