Paul Cripps wins M50 Triple Jump at Southern Vets League Match
Striders of Croydon produced some good performances in their second Southern Veterans League match of the season, at Ewell on Monday. Their men’s team were third of the eight clubs in the match, while their women were fourth. Paul Cripps won the M50 triple jump (9.76) and was third in both the 200 metres (28.8) and shot (8.12). Joseph Ibe was third in the A 3000 metres (10:54.7), with Steve Massey second in the B race (11:11.3), Graham Hansen third in the M50 race (11:01.3) and Jon Dean third in the M60 race (11:47.5). Kevin Burnett was third in the M70 hammer (13.86). For Striders’ women, Linda Daniel was third in the W50 3000 metres (15:07.8), while Sandra Francis was third in the long jump (3.17). Lorraine Hunte set a club W65 200 metre record of 38.5 seconds, placing fourth in the over-50 race. Jadwiga Brzask-Makiela was third in the W35 hammer (8.76).
Striders’ women did well to place second in the Beckenham Relays on Wednesday. Rachel Lindley ran the first leg in 15 minutes 21, which was the fastest women’s time of the day. She was followed by Jemma Zakariyyau (17:30) and Steph Upton (18:26). Striders’ men’s team of Martin Filer (15:14), Lee Flanagan (15:01) and Tom Lawson (15:42) placed 16th out of 119 teams.
In the Southern Counties Veterans Championships, at Abingdon on Saturday, Alan Dolton placed third in the M60 800 metres (2:59.15). On the same day Krzysztof Klidzia was first out of 249 runners at the Beckenham parkrun (17:50), while Jemma Zakariyyau was the first woman at the Bethlem Hospital parkrun (20:24) and Niamh Vincent was the first woman at the Clover Point parkrun (22:05). In the Edinburgh Marathon on Sunday, Marianne Chua ran 3 hours 35 minutes 38, followed by Laura Fell (3:51:59) and Louise Grech (3:57:16).
This Sunday (2nd) Striders have several competitors in the Dorking 10-mile road race, while some of their oldest athletes will be competing in the Surrey Masters Championships at Kingsmeadow.
