Jemma Zakariyyau first strider at Harry Hawkes 10M road race
Jemma Zakariyyau, from Striders of Croydon, had another excellent run in the Harry Hawkes 10-mile road race at Thames Ditton on Sunday. She was the 16th woman to finish, recording 69 minutes 20 seconds, which lifted her to eighth place in Striders’ all-time women’s rankings. Striders’ men were led by veteran Steve Massey who ran well to finish fourth in the over-50 category, and 81st overall, in 70 minutes 23. He was followed by James Burree (76:13), John Summers (76:47), Nikki Javan (77:33) and Michael Joseph (84:22).
On the previous day Sophia Sachedina was the first woman to finish the Haverfordwest parkrun, placing 12th overall in 23 minutes 04. Closer to home, Lee Flanagan was third in the Lloyd parkrun (18:26) while Jamie Hopps was third in the South Norwood parkrun (19:28) and Steve Corfield was fourth in the Roundshaw parkrun (19:12). Steph Upton was the third woman to finish the Riddlesdown parkrun, placing 27th overall (22:08). Striders had a total of 73 finishers in the various weekly parkruns.
In the Blackheath & Bromley Open Meeting at Norman Park on Monday, Joseph Ibe was 12th in the A 1500 metres (5:00.19) while Peter Johnson was fourth in the B race (5:27.25).
