A week of 5kms!
Three members of Striders of Croydon produced very good performances in the monthly Serpentine five-kilometre road race in Hyde Park on Friday. They were led by Andrew Aitken who was the first over-40 to finish, placing fifth overall out of 147 finishers in 16 minutes 52 seconds. Club colleague James Rhodes placed eleventh in 17 minutes 23, lifting him to 12th place in Striders’ all-time road rankings. Striders’ oldest competitor, Matthew Stone, also ran well to place first in the over-55 category and 20th overall (18:20).
On the following morning, Christopher Finch ran very well to place first out of 125 finishers in the Wammy parkrun in Newcastle-under-Lyme, completing the five-kilometre course in 18 minutes 36. Alastair Falconer placed first out of 73 finishers in the Squerryes Winery parkrun (19:03). Matthew Stone placed first out of 154 finishers in the Lloyd parkrun (19:57), with Steve Corfield fourth (20:39). Consuelo Kennefick was the first woman to finish the Riddlesdown parkrun, placing 14th overall (23:49). Damian Macenhill was second in the Mersea Island parkrun (20:17). Ellyw Evans was the fourth woman to finish the Bethlem Royal Hospital parkrun, placing eleventh overall (24:32). Striders had an impressive total of 91 finishers in the various weekly parkruns.
