Striders of Croydon faced strong opposition in the Wimbledon 5 kilometre road race on Sunday, which incorporated the Surrey Championships and was the final event in this year’s Surrey Road League. Their first man home was Justin Macenhill who ran well to place 53rd of the 244 finishers, covering the hilly course in 18 minutes
For the second successive week, Striders of Croydon had the first three finishers in the weekly parkrun at Lloyd Park on Saturday. Ernie Hann, who had finished runner-up to club colleague Krzysztof Klidzia the previous week, went one better this week by taking first place, covering the undulating course in 19 minutes 45 seconds. Rachel Lindley, from Striders of Croydon, ran very well to be the first woman to finish at the 200th weekly Lloyd parkrun on Saturday morning. She beat most of the men as she finished tenth overall out of 169 finishers, covering the undulating five-kilometre course in 19 minutes 27 seconds on a very hot morning.

Striders of Croydon produced some good performances in their final Southern Veterans League match of the season, at Wimbledon last week. Paul Cripps showed his versatility by winning both the M35 2000 metre walk (12.41.0) and the discus (18.50), and also placing second in the triple jump (9.60) and third in the javelin (22.99). Maggie
