British Masters Championships
Two runners from Striders of Croydon ran very well in the British Masters Championships at Derby. On Saturday, Lorraine Hunte placed fourth in the final of the W70 100 metres in 17.42 seconds, only six hundredths of a second behind the bronze medallist. On Sunday, Steve Corfield placed fifth in the M60 800 metres in a club age-group record of 2 minutes 16.41.
In the Lakeland 100 mile race, starting and finishing at Coniston, Debra Bourne was the 58th female finisher, placing tenth in the W50 age-group in 38 hours 36 minutes 26.
Striders had five finishers in the Wedding Day 7K at Bushy Park on Friday, which was the final race in this year’s Surrey Road League. Erik Schrijnemaekers placed 68th (26:17) with Darren Woods 195th (30:44), Martin Gourlay 537th (44:00), Karen Peake 549th (45:51) and Keith Dube 550th (45:52).
In the Sri Chinmoy 5K at Battersea on Tuesday, Phil Coales placed 92nd out of 371 finishers (16:51). Ally Whitlock was the 50th female finisher, placing 292nd overall in a club W40 record of 20:37.
On Saturday morning, Striders had a total of 116 finishers in the various weekly parkruns. Ally Whitlock was the first woman to finish the South Norwood parkrun, placing seventh overall out of 147 finishers (21:28). Rachel Lindley was the first woman to finish the Roberts Park parkrun, near Shipley in Yorkshire, placing 13th overall out of 443 finishers (20:44). Angela Seesurrun was the third woman to finish the South Norwood parkrun, placing 41st overall (25:33). For Striders’ men, Chris Bourchier was second in the South Norwood parkrun (20:14). Striders had three of the first five finishers at the Lloyd parkrun with Nathan Robertshaw third (19:10), Erik Schrijnemaekers fourth (19:19) and Lee Flanagan fifth (19:24).
