Cara leads the way for Striders at 5K and 10K
Cara Kayum, from Striders of Croydon, ran well to be the first woman to finish in the Dulwich parkrun on Saturday, completing the five-kilometre course in 19 minutes 32 seconds and placing 23rd overall. The previous week, Cara was the second woman to finish the Dartford Bridge 10 kilometre road race, running a personal best 39 minutes 52 seconds.
Ernie Hann placed fourth out of 118 finishers in the weekly parkrun in Lloyd Park on Saturday. He covered the undulating five-kilometre course in 19 minutes 32 seconds. Simon Webster was ninth (21.06) and veteran Geoff Pennells also ran well to finish eleventh (21.14). Mick Turner was sixth in the Roundshaw parkrun (20.46), while Nigel Davidson was seventh in the Riddlesdown parkrun (20.31) and Damian Macenhill was tenth in the Dulwich parkrun (18.45). Striders had a total of 43 finishers in the various local parkruns.
Striders’ oldest competitor, 74-year-old Kevin Burnett, finished eighth in the over-70 category in the Surrey Masters Cross-Country Championships at Richmond Park on Saturday. He covered the six-kilometre course in 44 minutes 03.
