Daniel hurdles to Striders success
Daniel Hassett, from Striders of Croydon, made an excellent start to the track season with a comfortable win in the 400 metre hurdles in the first Rosenheim League match of the season, at Battersea Park on Wednesday. His time of 63.52 seconds was a new Striders club record, and was Striders’ only victory of the evening. Another good performance came from Cara Kayum, who placed third in the women’s 800 metres in a personal best of 2 minutes 43.75 seconds. However both Striders’ men and women had to settle for sixth place in the match.
On the same evening Striders did very well to place second out of 63 teams in the annual Beckenham Road Relay. The team were given a good start by Richard Lee-Smith (15.04) and Lee Flanagan (14.21). On the final leg former Surrey steeplechase champion Matt Morgan, making a welcome return to Striders colours after a period in Australia, consolidated second place with an excellent run of 13 minutes 56, which was the fastest time of the day.
Striders’ women finished sixth in their category. Their team comprised Debra Bourne (19.18), Alice Ewen (19.11) and Steph Upton (18.19).
