East Surrey League
Striders of Croydon had an impressive total of 22 finishers in their first East Surrey League cross-country race of the season, at Lloyd Park on Saturday. Their men’s team did well to place second out of the six clubs in the match. They were led by Tatsuya Okamoto, who finished eighth, completing the five-mile course in 29 minutes 11. Andrew Aitken was 13th (30:04), James Rhodes 18th (31:29) and Nathan Robertshaw completed the scoring team in 19th (31:35).
Striders’ women placed fourth. They were led by Kara Boaks, who was the eleventh woman to finish (38:22). Ellyw Evans was 16th (40:00), Cindy Siu 19th (41:56) and Ruth Pearson 28th (52:13).
Striders also had 14 non-scorers. Lee Flanagan placed 20th (31:53) with Simon Ambrosi 25th (33:13), Rob Lines 27th (33:27), Tom Gillespie 33rd (34:03), Matthew Stone 36th (34:16), Kerim Suruliz 37th (34:17), Graham Hansen 42nd (34:52), Stephen Harris 43rd (34:59), Tim Lawlor 46th (35:14), Andy Perks 54th (36:29), Jon Dean 66th (39:01), Kechong Nguyen 68th (39:39), Peter Mills 73rd (40:24) and Mark Harman 80th (42:05). Earlier in the day, Striders had a total of 98 finishers in the various weekly parkruns.
On Sunday, Liam Redmond placed 18th out of 113 finishers in the Morecambe Marathon in a personal best 2:57:30. Tatsuya Okamoto again ran well to place fourth out of 759 finishers in the Barns Green Half-Marathon (1:18:05), while club colleague Darren Woods was 109th (1:38:39). Steve Massey placed 53rd out of 443 finishers in the RunThrough Wimbledon Half-Marathon (1:42:36).
In the Serpentine 5K at Hyde Park on Friday, Steve Corfield ran well to place second in the M60 age-group and 21st overall out of 143 finishers (18:18).
