East Surrey League
Striders of Croydon did well to finish second in the East Surrey League senior men’s cross-country race at Lloyd Park on Saturday. They were led by Tatsuya Okamoto who ran very well to finish third, completing the muddy eight-kilometre course in 31 minutes 40. Lee Flanagan was eighth (33:23) and Greg Kirby ninth (34:39), while Matthew Stone completed the scoring quartet in eleventh (35:12). Tom Gillespie was 13th (35:48), Nathan Robertshaw 14th (35:49), Andy Perks 16th (36:12), Tim Lawlor 25th (37:46), David Foster 27th (38:21) and Stephen Siu 38th (42:20). In the young athletes’ race earlier in the afternoon, Daniel Finch was 25th, while his brother Thomas Finch was 42nd.
In the Serpentine 5K, at Hyde Park on Friday, Steve Corfield was 37th overall out of 223 finishers, placing first in the M60 age-group (18:03). Andy Perks was 50th (18:27) and Graeme Drysdale 61st (18:48).
In the RunThrough Chase The Moon 10K, at Battersea on Wednesday, Niamh Vincent was the eighth woman to finish, placing first in the W40 category and 74th overall (41:27). This lifted her to tenth place in Striders’ all-time women’s rankings. Club colleague Lottie Nusca was the eleventh woman to finish, placing 86th overall (42:47).
On Saturday morning, Striders had a total of 108 finishers in the various weekly parkruns. Consuelo Kennefick was the second woman to finish the Riddlesdown parkrun, placing 17th overall out of 93 finishers (24:50). Becky Laurence was the third woman to finish the Barking parkrun (22:54), while Cindy Siu was the third woman to finish the Lloyd parkrun (25:09).
In the Brighton Half-Marathon on Sunday, Sheena Hammond was 37th in the W60 age-group (2:23:54). In the Mornington Chasers 10K at Regents Park, Sarah Allport was 21st in the W50 age-group (1:12:49).
