• Final Surrey Cross-Country League races

    Striders of Croydon faced strong opposition in their final Surrey Cross-Country League races of the season, at Lloyd Park on Saturday. Their women produced an excellent team performance to take second place in their Division Three match and third in the final Division Three table, winning promotion back to Division Two. They were led by Rachel Lindley, who ran well to take fourth place out of the 93 finishers. Ellyw Evans also ran well to place seventh, while Cindy Siu was 19th, Lauren Cotton-Walkington 29th and Debra Bourne completed the scoring team in 30th. Ruth Pearson was 42nd, Jay Brzask-Makiela 59th and Jane Hughes 81st.

    Striders’ men had an impressive total of 25 finishers, but had to settle for tenth place in their Division Two match and were relegated to Division Three for next season. They were led by Phil Coales, who was 33rd out of the 241 finishers. James Rhodes was 44th, Tatsuya Okamoto 52nd and Harry Madgwick-Lawton 74th. Lee Flanagan was third in the M50 age-group and 94th overall. Peter Mills was 114th, Greg Kirby 115th, Nathan Robertshaw 124th and Chris Bourchier 127th. Steve Corfield was first in the M60 age-group and 135th overall.

    Striders’ B team were sixth in their category. Andy Perks was first in the M55 age-group and 136th overall. Simon Ambrosi was 138th, Krzysztof Klidzia 140th, Graeme Drysdale 143rd, Tom Gillespie 158th, Kerim Suruliz 167th, Tim Lawlor 168th, Stephen Harris 176th, Martin Filer 178th, Matthew Stone 185th and Jason Gallagher 186th. Robert Zietz was first in the M65 age-group and 195th overall. Darren Woods was 202nd, Mick Turner 222nd and Mark Harman 239th. Both Steve Corfield and Robert Zietz won their individual age-groups for the season.
