From 5km to 50 miles…
Rachel Lindley, from Striders of Croydon, ran very well on Saturday to be the fourth woman to finish the Wendover Woods 50-mile race. She placed 40th overall out of 173 finishers in 11 hours 04 minutes 22. Club colleague Joshua Quinn was 68th in 11 hours 47 minutes 22.
Striders had two teams in the Reigate Priory Relays on Saturday afternoon. Their men’s team consisted entirely of runners aged over 50. Chris Morton ran the first leg, completing the undulating four-kilometre course in 19 minutes 05. He was followed by Jon Dean, who ran the second leg in 18 minutes 36, which was Striders’ fastest time of the day. Striders’ oldest competitor, Robert Zietz, ran the third leg in 18 minutes 48, while Mick Turner ran the final leg in 19 minutes 06. Striders’ youngest competitor, Hannah Luffman, ran the first leg for the women’s team, recording 26 minutes 45. She was followed by Steph Upton (20:50) and Jadwiga Brzask-Makiela (25:13).
On Sunday, Andrew Aitken ran very well to place 67th out of more than 6000 finishers in the Reading Half-Marathon, recording 75 minutes 51 seconds. This lifts him to 13th place in Striders’ all-time club rankings. Darren Woods was 33rd in the Deal Castle five-mile road race (34:09).
On Saturday morning, Striders had 91 finishers in the various weekly parkruns. Matthew Stone was second out of 201 finishers at the Beacon parkrun in Lichfield (19:34). Striders had three of the first four women to finish the Lloyd parkrun with Cindy Woo second (24:40), Selena Wong third (25:40) and Nikki Javan fourth (25:46). Consuelo Kennefick was the third woman to finish the Riddlesdown parkrun (25:56).
