James leads Striders in tough Farthing Downs race
Striders of Croydon faced strong opposition in the South of Thames Cross-Country Championships, held at Farthing Downs, Coulsdon on Saturday. Striders’ best performance came from James Bennett who ran well to place 42nd of the 284 finishers, covering the muddy twelve-kilometre course in 48 minutes 40 seconds. Krzysztof Klidzia also ran well to place 93rd (52.21) with Damian Macenhill 109th (53.39), Justin Macenhill 116th (54.24), Ernie Hann 118th (54.55) and Greg Williams completing the scoring team in 133rd (56.44). Striders also had five non-scorers. They placed 14th out of the 23 complete six-man teams.
Earlier on Saturday, Becky Laurence ran well to be the first woman to finish the Riddlesdown parkrun, placing 23rd overall in 23 minutes 29 seconds. Striders had a total of 48 finishers at the various weekly parkruns.
