James sets Striders marathon record again
James Bennett, from Striders of Croydon, had an excellent run in the Amsterdam Marathon on Sunday, setting a new club record of 2 hours 36 minutes 51 seconds. This was an improvement of 51 seconds on his previous club record which he set in London earlier this year.
Barry White ran well against strong opposition in the Surrey Masters Cross-Country Championships at Richmond Park on Saturday. He finished 13th in the M40 category, covering the undulating ten-kilometre course in 40 minutes 49 seconds.
Striders had three of the first five finishers in the Lexus Croydon 10 kilometre road race on Sunday, with Simone Luciani placing third (35.03), Phil Coales fourth (35.09) and Bill Makuwa fifth (35.53). Becky Laurence was the fourth woman to finish, placing 83rd overall in 44 minutes 06. Carolyn Storey also ran well to place 128th (47.40) with Allie Cairnie 139th (48.06). Striders had 53 of the 385 finishers, and also had a total of 39 finishers at the various weekly parkruns on the previous day.
