Kigali Peace Marathon in Rwanda
Rachel Lindley, from Striders of Croydon, ran very well to be the 13th woman to finish the Kigali Peace Marathon in Rwanda on Sunday. She completed the undulating course in 3 hours 58 minutes 27, placing 53rd overall.
On the same day, Andrew Aitken ran well to place first in the M45 age-group, and 27th overall out of 1874 finishers, in the Worthing 10-kilometre road race (35:49).
On Saturday morning, Striders had five of the first six finishers in the Lloyd parkrun. Lee Flanagan ran well to place first out of the 237 finishers, recording 19 minutes 13. Matthew Stone was third (19:51), Steve Corfield fourth (19:53), Simon Ambrosi fifth (19:57) and Thomas Karelis sixth (20:16). Cindy Siu was the fourth woman to finish, placing 47th overall (25:06), while Debra Bourne was the fifth woman to finish, placing 49th overall (25:21).
Elsewhere, Erik Schrijnemaekers was second out of 260 finishers in the Mote parkrun in Maidstone (19:13). Stephen Kennefick placed third of 111 finishers in the Bethlem Royal Hospital parkrun (20:03), while his wife Consuelo Kennefick was the fourth woman to finish, placing 27th overall (25:38). Striders’ fastest time of the day came from Phil Coales who was sixth out of 1509 finishers in the Bushy parkrun (17:03). Striders had a total of 113 finishers in the various weekly parkruns.
On Tuesday, Steve Corfield ran well to place first in the M60 age-group, and 16th overall out of 103 finishers, in the Veterans AC five-kilometre road running championship (17:57). Club colleague Darren Woods was 65th overall (21:15).
