Krzysztof doubles up for Striders
Krzysztof Klidzia, from Striders of Croydon, ran well to place 13th out of 217 finishers in the Epsom 10-mile road race on Sunday, recording 62 minutes 50 seconds. Club colleague Steph Upton was the eighth woman to finish, recording 72 minutes 50. This was Klidzia’s second race of the weekend, as on the previous day he had won the Roundshaw Downs parkrun, covering the five-kilometre course in 18 minutes 49 seconds. Becky Laurence was the first woman at the Riddlesdown parkrun, placing 18th overall in 23 minutes 06.
Striders faced strong opposition in the South of the Thames Cross-Country Association inter-club race at Wimbledon Common on Saturday. Their men were led by veteran Simon Pannell who ran well to place 123rd of the 321 finishers, covering the muddy five-mile course in 33 minutes 49 seconds. Greg Williams was 132nd (34.30), Chris Morton 154th (35.11) and Darren Woods 164th (35.35). They placed 34th in the team event.
Striders’ women were led by Zoe Williams who placed 78th in the women’s race, recording exactly 42 minutes. Michelle Clarke was 83rd (42.27) and Katie McInnes 101st (48.47).
