Matthew Stone leads Striders at Elmbridge 10k
Striders of Croydon faced strong opposition on Sunday in the Elmbridge 10-kilometre road race, which was the penultimate race in this year’s Surrey Road League. In hot conditions, they were led by Matthew Stone, who ran very well to place seventh in the over-50 category, and 61st overall, completing the course in 38 minutes 13 seconds. Darren Woods was Striders’ second finisher in 109th (40:44), with Lyes Fridi completing the scoring trio in 147th (42:06). John O’Mahony was 180th (43:21), Chris Morton 197th (44:14) and Peter Johnson 210th (44:28). Striders’ women were led by Nikki Javan who was the 47th woman to finish, recording 45 minutes 24. Adele Boesinger was 65th in a personal best 48 minutes 11 with Joanne Campbell 66th (48:16), Susanna Lutman 73rd (48:53), Selena Wong 80th (50:00), Carolyn Storey 98th (52:26), Allie Cairnie 99th (52:26) and Lucy Kulp 109th (53:37). Striders had a total of 22 finishers. They also had several runners in the Caterham Half-Marathon, led by Andrew Aitken who placed seventh in 80 minutes 32.
On the previous day, veteran Dave Shaw was third in the weekly parkrun at Lloyd Park (19:10), while Rachel Lindley was the first woman to finish, placing fifth overall (19:36). Jon Dean was fourth in the Hoblingwell parkrun (20:50). Striders had a total of 67 finishers in the various weekly parkruns (27 at Lloyd Park and 40 at other venues).
