Outstanding performance by Striders Women at the Croydon 10km
Striders of Croydon had three of the first ten women to finish the Croydon 10K road race on Sunday. Niamh Vincent ran well to be the fifth woman to finish, recording 44 minutes 04 seconds. Club colleague Marianne Chua was just one place and ten seconds behind her, while Jennifer Gutteridge was ninth in 45 minutes 50. Striders’ men were led by Bill Makuwa who placed second in the over-40 category and 13th overall (36:56). Michael Davis was 16th (37:34) and Martin Filer 18th (38:58). Steve Corfield also ran well to place second in the over-50 category and 25th overall (39:39). In the Frankfurt Marathon on the same day, Andrew Aitken ran 2 hours 56 minutes 27 seconds.
On the previous day, Striders had the first three women to finish the South Norwood parkrun. They were led by Marianne Chua, who ran well to finish 13th overall, completing the five-kilometre course in 23 minutes 40. She was closely followed by Kara Boaks who placed 15th overall (23:50), while Jessica Polya was 21st (24:21). Graeme Drysdale was third in the Sizewell parkrun (20:39), while one of Striders’ youngest runners, Christopher Finch, ran well to finish third at the Congleton parkrun (21:06). Jodie Gray was the third woman to finish the Whinlatter Forest parkrun, placing 14th overall (24:03). Striders had a total of 56 finishers in the various weekly parkruns. In the Beachy Head Marathon on the same day, Striders were led by veteran Nick Kyritsis who completed the undulating course in 4 hours 54 minutes 29.
This Saturday (2nd), Striders will be competing in the Priory Relays, at Reigate
