Phil breaks Striders’ mile record
Phil Coales, from Striders of Croydon, had an outstanding run to win the mile race at the Blackheath & Bromley open Meeting at Norman Park last week, setting a new club record of 4 minutes 44.95 seconds. His club colleague, 15-year-old Matthew Ostrowski, also ran well to finish tenth in a club under-17 record of 5 minutes 17.90 seconds. In the British Milers Club 5000 metre race at Eltham on Wednesday, Peter Mills placed ninth in 16 minutes 03.7 seconds, only three seconds outside his personal best.
Lee Flanagan placed second in the weekly parkrun in Lloyd Park on Saturday, recording 19 minutes 35 seconds. Krzysztof Klidzia won the Hartlepool parkrun (18.44) while Damian Macenhill was second in the Tunbridge Wells parkrun (19.39) and Steph Upton was the second woman to finish the Salisbury parkrun (22.18). Striders had a total of 55 finishers in the various weekly parkruns (20 at Lloyd Park and 35 at other venues).
Striders held their annual triathlon championship from Trinity School last week. Greg Williams won with Paul Finch second and Justin Macenhill third, while Natalie Clerke was the first woman to finish.
