Phil leads Striders at Surrey Champs 5K race
Striders of Croydon had some good performances in the Wimbledon five-kilometre road race on Sunday, which incorporated the Surrey Championship and was the final race in this year’s Surrey Road League. They were led by Philip Coales who ran well to place 21st of the 211 finishers, covering the undulating course in 17 minutes 27 seconds. Steve Massey was 85th (20.11) with Darren Woods 109th (21.05), John O’Mahony 124th (21.35), Peter Johnson 129th (21.44) and James Burree 136th (22.08). Striders’ women were led by Carolyn Storey who ran very well to finish 137th overall (22.09). Charlotte Letchford was 150th (22.52) with Michelle Clarke 153rd (23.00) and Selena Wong 169th (24.07).
On the previous day, Krzysztof Klidzia was second in the weekly parkrun in Lloyd Park (18.09) while Graeme Drysdale was second in the Riddlesdown parkrun (18.45), where Becky Laurence was the second woman to finish, placing 21st overall (21.42). Striders had a total of 40 finishers at the various weekly parkruns (13 at Lloyd Park and 27 at other venues).
