Reigate XC Relays
Striders of Croydon faced strong opposition in the Reigate Priory Relays on Saturday afternoon. They fielded three men’s teams and two women’s teams. Their men’s A team did well to place eighth in a strong field. Erik Schrijnemaekers ran the first leg of the undulating four-kilometre course in 16 minutes 54, handing over to Phil Coales who ran the second leg in 15:19, which was Striders’ fastest time of the day. He was followed by Matthew Stone (16:56) and Martin Filer (16:36). Striders’ B team of Luke Burden (17:46), Dominic Hayward (18:19), Conor O’Hara-Barrett (16:43) and Tom Vincent (17:56) placed 16th. Their C team of James Harrison (22:32), Rob Zietz (20:21), Andy Perks (20:23) and Simon Webster (19:46) placed 33rd. Striders placed 14th in the women’s race. Niamh Vincent ran the first leg in 18:52, and was followed by Cindy Siu (21:46) and Nikki Javan (20:24). For an incomplete B team, Jadwiga Brzask-Makiela ran the first leg in 27:20, handing over to Maria Gabriel (25:47).
Earlier in the day, Striders had 94 finishers in the various weekly parkruns. Consuelo Kennefick was the first woman to finish the Riddlesdown parkrun, placing seventh overall out of 116 finishers (21:51). Lee Flanagan was second out of 182 finishers in the Lloyd parkrun (19:13), while Simon Ambrosi was fourth (20:20) and Steve Corfield fifth (20:23). Striders’ fastest time of the day came from James Rhodes who placed eighth in the Dulwich parkrun (16:55).
Linda Daniel placed 203rd out of 414 finishers in the New Forest 10-mile race, starting and finishing near Brockenhurst. She recorded 91 minutes 11 seconds.
