Sandra and Rachel lead for Striders
Striders of Croydon faced strong opposition in their final Rosenheim League match of the season, at Tooting on Wednesday. Their best performances came from women’s captain Sandra Francis, who placed third in the long jump (2.92) and fourth in the 100 metres (17.1). She led Striders’ women to fourth place in the match and in the final league table. Belgrave won with 28 points ahead of Serpentine (24), Hercules-Wimbledon (21), Striders (12), Croydon Harriers (10) and Herne Hill (10).
Striders’ men only mustered five athletes, four of whom were aged over 40, and had to settle for their customary sixth place.
Rachel Lindley ran well to be the first woman to finish the weekly parkrun in Lloyd Park on Saturday. She placed eleventh overall out of 115 finishers, covering the undulating five-kilometre course in 20 minutes 41. Striders’ men were led by club secretary Chris Morton who finished ninth (20.27).
