Seven Striders finish the Box Hill Fell Race
Striders of Croydon had the first two finishers in the weekly parkrun at Lloyd Park on Saturday, with Lee Flanagan placing first in 19 minutes 23 seconds and Steve Corfield finishing second (20:15). Robert Lines was first in the Riddlesdown parkrun (19:24), while Samuel Hansen was third out of 701 finishers in the Newcastle parkrun (18:13). Marianne Chua was the third woman to finish the South Norwood parkrun, placing 35th overall (23:28), while Hannah Musk was the third woman to finish the Swaffham parkrun, placing 22nd overall (26:40). Striders had a total of 83 finishers in the various weekly parkruns.
In the Surrey Schools Cross-Country Championships at Reigate, Christopher Finch was 39th in the under-15 boys’ race (16:31) while his younger brother Daniel Finch was 38th in the under-13 boys’ race (13:32). Their elder sister Lucy Finch was 53rd in the intermediate girls’ race (18:11).
On the same day, Striders had seven finishers in the annual Box Hill Fell race. They were led by Martin Filer who placed 89th of the 268 finishers in 72 minutes 09 seconds. Luke Burden was not far behind in 104th (74:12). Striders’ first woman finisher was Jodie Gray who was 123rd overall (76:42). Steph Upton also ran well to finish first in the W50 age-group and 175th overall (85:00). Darren Woods was 187th (86:08), Ally Whitlock 210th (90:49) and Robert McDonald 240th (1:40:01).
This Saturday (25th) Striders will be competing in the South of England Cross-Country Championships, at Parliament Hill.
