South of England Cross-Country Championships
Striders of Croydon faced strong opposition in the South of England Cross-Country Championships at Beckenham on Saturday. Their senior men placed 34th. Andrew Aitken was 236th, completing the 15-kilometre course in 56 minutes 58. Lee Flanagan was 265th (58:06), Erik Schrijnemaekers 381st (62:13), Andy Perks 419th (63:46), Luke Burden 423rd (63:58), Kerim Suruliz 481st (66:40), Robert Zietz 575th (72:08) and Simon Webster 580th (72:27).
Striders’ women placed 41st. Kara Boaks was 189th, completing the eight-kilometre course in 35 minutes 01. Nikki Javan was 262nd (37:30), Selena Wong 302nd (39:47), Michelle Vezie-Taylor 360th (43:50), Jadwiga Brzask-Makiela 394th (48:55) and Michelle Klein 414th (56:31).
On the same day, Ally Whitlock was the seventh woman to finish the Arc 50-mile race from Minack to Porthtowan in Cornwall. She placed 41st overall in 11 hours 25 minutes 42.
In the RunThrough Chase The Moon 10K at Battersea on Wednesday, James Bennett was first in the M40 age-group, placing eighth overall (35:20). Simone Luciani placed ninth (35:48). Niamh Vincent was the tenth woman to finish, placing 79th overall and first in the W35 age-group (43:15).
Steve Corfield was the first over-60 to finish the Serpentine 5K road race at Hyde Park on Friday. He placed 38th overall (18:27).
On Saturday morning, Martin Filer was first of 131 finishers in the Riddlesdown parkrun (19:16). Consuelo Kennefick was the first woman to finish, placing eleventh overall (23:15). Cindy Siu was the first woman to finish the Lloyd parkrun, placing 34th overall (25:12). Erik Schrijnemaekers was second in the Bethlem Royal Hospital parkrun (19:54) with Daniel Finch third (20:28). Matthew Stone was second in the Lloyd parkrun (20:11). Rachel Lindley was the second woman to finish the Clumber Park parkrun in Nottinghamshire, placing fourth overall (19:19).
