South of the Thames Cross-Country Championships
Three runners from Striders of Croydon ran well against strong opposition in the South of the Thames Cross-Country Championships at Aldershot on Saturday. Jadwiga Brzask-Makiela was 42nd in the women’s race, completing the 12-kilometre course in 78 minutes 50. In the men’s race Luke Burden placed 66th (51:24) while Simon Webster was 83rd (55:49).
Earlier in the day, Martin Filer ran well to place second out of 137 finishers in the Riddlesdown parkrun (18:59). Consuelo Kennefick was the third woman to finish, placing eleventh overall (21:59). Rachel Lindley was the third woman to finish the Coldham’s Common parkrun in Cambridge, placing 31st overall (20:47). Cindy Siu was the fourth woman to finish the Lloyd parkrun, placing 35th overall (24:46), while club colleague Ellyw Evans was the fifth woman to finish, placing 38th overall (25:06). Striders had a total of 77 finishers in the various weekly parkruns (36 at Lloyd Park and 41 at other venues).
Striders also had five finishers in the Lloyd junior parkrun on Sunday. Thomas Finch was fourth, covering the two-kilometre course in 8 minutes 56. Toby Lee-Smith was close behind him in fifth place (8:59) while Zoe Siu was the fifth female finisher, placing 17th overall (11:04). Caleb Macenhill was 23rd (12:05) while Hazel Siu was 30th (14:24).
Jamie Stevenson ran well to place ninth in the RunThrough Olympic Park Santa Run 10K at Stratford (38:35). Club colleague Stanka Petrova was 304th (82:00).
